LICENSE RENEWAL - TURNING 21
Your license or ID card is valid for 90 days after your 21st birthday, giving you ample time to renew your driver's license. For Alaska residents attending college outside the state, it may be necessary to plan ahead for renewing your license or to take extra measures to ensure you remain legally permitted to drive.
You are required to pass an Alcohol & Drug Awareness Test to renew a license after turning 21 years of age.
Please Note: Alaska does not offer a grace period once a license has expired. Driving with an expired license is illegal. If your license has been expired for over a year, or if you have acquired a license from another state, you will need to renew your license in person upon your return to Alaska. This renewal process includes passing the general knowledge test..
