Scam Alert: Fraudulent Text Messages

April 2, 2026 - The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is warning the public about a recent surge in fraudulent text messages claiming to come from state or local DMV offices. These scam texts are not authorized or connected to any official DMV and should be ignored – or reported as spam.

The DMV will never request payment or sensitive personal information via text message. The DMV does not send texts from international or out-of-country area codes. Additionally, the DMV does not collect payments for traffic tickets.

If you receive a suspicious text:

Do not reply.
Do not click on any links.
Do not send money or provide personal information.
DMVs nationwide are aware of this scheme and are actively working to protect residents from these deceptive practices. If you have received a scam text, you do not need to report it to DMV, it should be reported as spam and then deleted.

Please keep an eye on DMV’s Facebook page; we always do our best to keep Alaskans up to date on anything DMV related we want to share.
