Vehicle Title: Adding or Removing an Owner
Adding or removing an owner is handled like a vehicle sale. The original title must be submitted, and both the buyer and seller sections must be completed and signed.
Follow these guidelines when filling out the transfer section:
What You Need
- Original or duplicate vehicle title
- Completed odometer disclosure (on title or V6 form)
- V1 Title and Registration application
- Payment: $15 title fee
How to Add an Owner
When adding an owner to a title that already has existing owners, complete the steps below.
- Current owner(s) sign the title as the seller.
- If more than one owner is listed with “AND,” all owners must sign.
- List the new added owner as the buyer.
- Write the current odometer reading on the title.
- Both seller and buyer must sign the title in the designated sections.
- Submit documents in person, by mail, or online.
How to Remove an Owner
To remove an owner while keeping one or more owners on the title, complete the steps below.
- A remaining owner signs the title as the seller.
- If more than one owner is listed with “AND,” all owners must sign.
- List the remaining owner(s) as the buyer.
- Write the current odometer reading on the title.
- Both seller and buyer must sign the title in the designated sections.
- Submit documents in person, by mail, or online.
