Disabled Parking Permit FAQs

There is no charge for a permit.

On your application completed by your health practitioner, the permit's expiration date will be specified.

For individuals with a permanent disability, permit renewal is required every five years. Additionally, you have the option to apply for disability license plates that include parking benefits. If your form is completed by an out-of-state doctor, you may only be issued a temporary permit for up to 6 months.

For those with a temporary disability, a permit can be issued for a duration of up to 6 months.

The expiration date will be clearly indicated on the permit.

If your vehicle is registered with a gold handicap plate or a disabled veteran plate featuring a wheelchair logo, you are authorized to use handicapped parking spaces without the need for an additional permit. These plates grant you parking privileges.

However, if your vehicle has a disabled veteran plate that does not include a wheelchair logo, you are not permitted to park in handicapped parking spaces.

For those with plates that provide parking privileges, possessing a disability permit is beneficial when using alternative vehicles, such as rental cars, as it extends your parking privileges to these vehicles.

Yes, permits are available for organizations that transport individuals with disabilities. To apply, please fill out the 'Application for Organization Disability Parking Permit' form available in PDF format.
