Transfer My Vehicle From Another State
If you’ve recently moved to Alaska or are bringing a vehicle from another state, you’ll need to transfer your out-of-state title and register your vehicle in Alaska. This process officially establishes ownership in Alaska and ensures your vehicle is legally titled and registered for use in the state.
What You’ll Need
To transfer your title and register your vehicle in Alaska, submit the following:
-
The most current out-of-state title
-
If the vehicle is already titled in your name, you do not need to sign the title before transfer.
- If you currently have an unreleased Lien (loan is not yet paid) you will only be eligible for registration only. See additional information on registration here.
-
If the vehicle was recently purchased, the title must be properly assigned and signed over to you by the previous owner.
-
If the vehicle has a lien, the title will be mailed directly to the lienholder after processing. A lien release is required once the loan is paid off.
-
-
Note: If you are unsure about the vehicles most current title you may request that information from your previous jurisdiction or a title history report maybe obtained from a number of online resources https://www.vehiclehistory.gov/nmvtis_vehiclehistory.html
